Brentwood eNEWS

September 17, 2010

My friends!

We thank God for our wonderful church and its members.  We are here in this neighborhood with a clear mission.  The mission of Brentwood United Methodist Church is to build a Christ-centered community of ethnic, age and cultural diversity expressing God’s love, meeting the changing needs, and reaching out into the community in three languages: English, Spanish and Vietnamese.  This mission statement determines our priorities in our service to God and His children.  May I invite you to read the mission statement one more time, and think of ways that you and I can make a difference this weekend.

The Trustees Committee thanks Nhan Pham, and his Nhan Pham Landscaping Services, for putting new rocks on the west-side yards by the parking lot.  He will continue to put some more rocks and mulch around our church building.  The trees on the west-side of the sanctuary will be trimmed by Minh Nguyen.  The three dying pine trees on the east-side of the sanctuary (S Irving St) will be replaced by three maple leaf trees.  We also want to plant a tree in the play ground at the back of the church.  Nhan will donate all the costs of rocks, mulch and labor.  Minh will donate his labor cost of trimming trees.  The cost of each of the new four trees is around $150, which is on sale at this time.  Anyone wishes to purchase a tree or two in memory or honor of some one else?

The Trustees Committee also thanks Gary Merrill for trying to fix the duplicator in our church office in the past couple of weeks.  The committee feels that the machine has reached its functional life, and decided to replace it with a new small multifunction machine, including copying, printing, faxing and scanning.  The cost is only $250.  Anyone wishes to donate for the purchase of this unit?  I will pick up the unit today and set it up in the church office.

Jo McCaig is now at Azura of Lakewood Rehabilitation Suites, 7395 W Eastman Pl, Lakewood, CO 80227.  Jo had a successful minor surgery on one of her knees at Swedish Medical Center last week.

Shhh! ... Shelley Yetter is planning a Surprise Party for her mom Vera Yetter’s 80th birthday.  It will be from 1 to 3 PM on Saturday, September 25 at Brentwood Church.  A light lunch and cake will be served.  Shelley says, cards only! your presence is a gift.  Please do not tell Vera!!  You can reach Shelley at 303-918-3823.

We thank God for your generous pledges toward a pledge drive of $7,500 to extend Sandra Jimenez’s compensation till April, 2011.  As of September 11, we received $10,775 in pledges. Hallelujah!!  I am forming a small group of grant writers to write 2 grant applications for our Hispanic/Latino Ministry, one of which is from our own Rocky Annual Conference, and the other one is from The Hispanic National Plan of The General Board of Global Ministries (GBGM) of The United Methodist Church.  The anticipating grant income will assist us in pastoral salary and programs for our Hispanic/Latino Ministry.

We will receive new church members on Sunday, November 7.  Please let Pastor Tan, Pastor Linda or Sandra know of your intention to join our church membership.

We plan to give Bibles to our 3rd graders and older children who do not own one.  Please let Ron McWilliams know the names of these children.  We will present these Bibles to our children on the Bible Sunday, November 21.

I was invited by the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church to attend the Global Ministries Consultation on Multi-Cultural , Multi-Racial and Multi-Ethnic Congregational Development in San Antonio, TX, September 20-22.  This will be an educational experience, and also an opportunity for me to represent Brentwood UMC at the Consultation.
