Brentwood eNEWS
August 13, 2010
Dear friends,
I cannot believe that it has been over 6 weeks since July 1st, when I started as the senior pastor of Brentwood Church. It has not been easy, at all. For the month of July, I was every where and any where, coming home many late nights. As you may have noticed that I do not wear a watch, and using the clock on my cell phone; but I had told some of you that I may need to wear a watch now hoping that I can add another 24 hours per day so I can catch up with my work loads.
Thanks be to God, Who reminded me that I must keep myself healthy and balanced physically, mentally and spiritually in my life and ministries.
I need to be a healthy disciple of Jesus Christ, in order to make healthy disciples for Him. I need to eat and rest well. I need to keep my daily devotion. I need to keep up with my 7,000 steps per day. I need to be healthy in order to serve effectively.
I also need to be balanced in my work. I can do some good works; but obviously, not all of the good works that come my way. I just simply can’t. Thanks to Pastor Linda and to so many, many wonderful and capable lay leadership in our church. Hallelujah! As a pastor, I love to be surrounded by many people who can do better jobs than I can. Use your talents and gifts to serve God’s children. It might simply be a “hello” to a young person. It might also be a hug or a hand shake to a senior member of our church. Why don’t we do it this Sunday? Our church will be a much better church because of someone like you and me.

This Sunday we will have Brentwood Cafe again. Please stay after the 9:45 and 11:15 worship services for a time to eat and fellowship. The proceeds will benefit our church ministries. Sue Alberts coordinates the Brentwood Cafe.
Education Committee will meet at 4 PM this Sunday, August 15 to finalize our Youth Camp, August 20-22. Ron McWilliams chairs this committee.
Pastor Linda and I will attend the New Pastor Orientation on Wednesday, August 25 at the Rocky Mountain Conference office. This will help our pastors with many tools to serve Brentwood more effectively.
Staff/Parish Relations Committee has changed their meeting from this Sunday to Sunday, September 12 at 1 PM. Phyllis Aguilar chairs this committee.

Marjorie Couch had a stroke on Sunday, August 1, and passed away early this week. Her daughter Cheryl shares, “My mother, Marjorie Couch is a member of the church who organized the church at its beginnings in a garage before the church was built.” The memorial service will be on Friday, September 3, at Brentwood Church to honor Marjorie’s life. May God be with Marjorie’s family at this difficult time and we thank God for her life.

Community Ministry, a relief agency of several South West Denver churches, is really in need of extra food this month as our shelves are almost empty. We also need more underwears, socks in all children’s sizes. We also need toiletries for our low-income families. Please help! Brentwood Church has been a strong sponsor of Community Ministry for many years. Thanks to several of our church members who have represented us well on the Board of Directors and as volunteers.

Until the next Brentwood eNEWS, keep on praying, attending, serving, giving and witnessing!
